Alliance of International Doctors Make Service to Syrians in Akçakale
26.01.2023

AID volunteers are providing services in a mobile health center to Syrian citizens who fled the violence in Tel Abyad and took refuge in the Akçakale district of Şanlıurfa.

The deteriorating health condition of the civilian population, affected by the clashes in Tel Abyad, who entered Turkey through the Akçakale Border Gate, mobilized AID volunteers. After meetings with Akçakale District Governor Eyüp Fırat and Akçakale State Hospital Chief Physician Dr. Yılmaz Gerger, and observations in the field, AID Şanlıurfa volunteers began providing services at the mobile health center.

At the health center, where three doctors and three healthcare workers volunteer, children are vaccinated against polio and measles to prevent epidemic diseases. Refugees who apply to the center are given outpatient services and free medication, while pregnant women are given folic acid and iron supplements, aiming to protect the health of mothers and babies.

Dr. Eyyüp Hazar, coordinator of the volunteer team in Akçakale, summarizes the situation: "The number of disabled people, women, and children brought into Turkish territory from points near the Akçakale customs gate at certain intervals has increased in proportion to the escalation of the war. I deliberately use the expression disabled, women, and children, because these are the groups most affected by war. I saw many people in wheelchairs migrating to Turkey, the safe harbor they found after leaving their land. Just as I saw many little siblings carrying their brothers or sisters on their backs..."
