Dental kits prepared through an organization by our AID volunteer students from Meram Faculty of Medicine and Selçuk Faculty of Medicine were distributed to Syrian children gathered at the Emel Temporary Health Facility in Reyhanlı. Within the scope of the project carried out in memory of Deah Barakat, who lost his life in an armed attack at his home in the state of North Carolina, USA, in February, volunteer students explained to Syrian children the ways to protect their oral and dental health.

For the children who completed the dental training and received dental kits, our team's volunteer dentists, who conducted dental screenings at the hospital's Dental Unit, stated that they detected dental problems in most of the children and carried out their treatments.

Barakat, a dentistry student in the USA, was planning to come to Reyhanlı this summer to carry out dental health work for Syrian children. Deah Barakat, his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, and her sister Razan Abu-Salha were shot and killed by their neighbor, which drew reactions from Muslims and human rights defenders around the world. The families of the victims continue to fight for the murder to be classified as a hate crime.
